Finishing off our Auguest interviews we have Definition's own Weazal.
Hailing all the way from Essex, Uk. Weazal has been making his mark on the NRG scene and then some. Having had releases on Spinball, Nosebleed, OneWay and most recently a 6 track EP on The Beat Ranch, Weazal's style of full on filth has rocked dancefloors all over the world. His own label Definition Recordings is about to release it's second CD filled with 10 kick ass Hard House & NRG tracks, and we wanted to get the inside scoop of whats to come....
Now with out any further ado, Weazal

Welcome Wes, you are no stranger here as you just had your own EP relesaed on The Beat Ranch, with 6 storming tracks. Will start with the usual. Where about are you from and how is the scene out there at the moment?
I reside in the Exotic seaside Resort Known as Southend on sea Essex Uk. The scene is good I think here at the moment, there’s one main monthly night called Concept run by my good pal, Dan Gurner which I happen to be resident for. It's pretty much packed out every month. There is also a night being run by my good buddies Wayne smart & Phatt Beats who both run Encoded Nrg which is now hopefully going to run every 3 months which I also managed to wangle residency at so yes there is still a good demand in my area for Hard House.
What came first for you production or djing?
DJing started for me in 1999 after I went to me first ever festival, night club, and after party all in one day at the age of 15! It was funny I was so worried about the whole day I thought it was best to dress up rather than down lol. I went to this festival in shirt trousers and shoes ( loafers ) everyone’s got their shorts on there’s me at the front of the dance tent which , jaw swinging across the floor avin it in me loafers lol After that night I was hooked on the music and shortly after brought me first vinyl’s and went on from there. Then it was 2 yrs ago now I first went on BT in the hunt for someone to make me a tune and I managed to come across Firefox aka Tom Urwin. I had already brought some of his tunes which at the time were a bit of me filthy Hoover infested Nrg LOL 155bpm all the way! So I went to see Tom with my Mrs. and we made superb track called "Promise Me" which we haven’t released but is on this mix and after seeing Tom do his thing on Fruity Loops I went home got a copy and pestered chim for a few months which he didn’t mind at all hehe and since then have just been stuck in my room till stupid o clock listening to repetitive loops over and over. I'm just glad Lazzal is cool with it lol because I can imagine some wife’s aren’t ahaha.
What was the first record you bought and do you still have it?
It was Fireball on Kaktai from their first shop Klik Klik Whirly Beep Beep in Brighton, I also brought Nine Bar as well I believe..
In terms of equipment, what is your preferred mixer and decks?
Well for mixing my preferred decks got to be 1000 mk3 for tightnes, but unfortunately I’m poor so I only have a set of 100s which have never let me down. I have an Allen and Heath Xone-92 mixer which having owned a 600 before and mixed on me mates 800 prefer the overall feel and quality of the Allen. I'm not big into FX so I don’t need all the gimmick a 800 has to offer. Some probably most will disagree but each to their own I suppose . It was funny one night after Concept had lots of people round to mine and Steve Maynard wondered up stairs and I was just showing me mate me mixer and he come in and went "Oh no you got an Allen and Grief" That made me laugh as alot of people say the same to.

So for production you have had quite the year, with your own EP out on The Beat Ranch, along with tracks on your own label Definition Recordings. What have you been working on recently?
Yes I’ve really got stuck into me production this year spending all my free time in my room just had to become a recluse for a year now, but it’s paying off I think. I just finished a collab with Michael Smith. He was kind enough to use FL for it in which he done very well considering he uses Cubase. It’s a track called Slapper, it’s in the mix and its signed to Encoded Nrg's next cd release. I also just finished a new collab with Jake Martin aka "DJ Jazzy M" called Judge and Jury Which will come out on my label. I have just finished a couple of solos tracks as well, one called Hit Man and the newest and probably best track imo. which is a re-work of Ben Boags awesome track Manhunt (which will be out on Definition soonish). I also have 4 tracks due out on Raw Power as Gem asked me to do an ep a few months bak there all pretty different tracks imo but all pretty nailz lol there called Big Ben, Wet Lettuce, Temper Tantrum and ,Restricted .
You have had the experience working with producers such as Dom Sweeten, Dave Owens , James Nardi and even myself. Who would you like to work with in the future?
Well me and Tom Urwin was talking about this earlier as we normally go and see Dom together. Tom has recently been talking to Dave the Drummer and is just waiting on some dates for a day with him as hes let me keep Tech Support for me own label so its only fair we make a nasty Techno track for his new label Pyrokinetic. I mean Maddox would be great to go in with for a day and see him work and Ben Stevens, Opeum, Darrell & Nick aka Whitehayz. Everyone if possible lol I'll def be making some more with Rob aka Random But Raw. Loving Robs recent tracks and managed to nab a couple of them for Definition. One called the Quad which is probably me favourite to date of his and another called Grotfox, Pinhead which we have Scallywag aka Px and Hilz'E to rework for us for CD no3. Which I know will be the shizzle as loved there past 2 collabs.
You mentioned earlier that you use FL Studio to produce your tracks, what VST or hardware could you not live without?
Vst wise Sylenth and Blue pretty much do every thing that I need at the minute as for hardware I dont own any synths but have got a Korg Mikro Kontrol for my midi. I got me Alesis mk1 mk2 monitors and Tascam sl 122l soundcard. Thats about it at the minute.

You started up Definition Records last year, what was the reason behind starting the label and where do you see it going in the next year or 2?
I always thought it was going to be best to get some tracks signed to other labels and try and get a bit of recognition before attempting to put any of my own tracks out on my own label So after having had a few tracks signed myself and Wylie got together and he choose the name and I choose the artwork. He choose the name I'll give him that which he reminds me of when were pissed even though he needs to pull his finger out or at least go online once in a blue moon aye Jay!! well 2 years from now I hope we can carry on to push the harder side of our beloved 4 / 4 music as that’s what we’ve set out to try and do from the start. Hard tunes but still quality within the productions and after no 1 going down well we’ve had even better response for no2 So we will carry on to release a 10 track cd every 3 months so long as peeps are still buying them
Your label Definition Recordings is about to release it's second CD release very soon, what can people expect on this release?
Well we have some stomping tracks on this one its def a harder release than the first. That's the reason for the colour change sort of lol. I been lucky enough to have got Kam Pain on board with us for the first release and have another superb track for this one its called So Horny and its a perfect bit of Nrg imo. We have beast from Dion this track is aptly named SICKO lol cos it is and its awesome. We also have Dramatik with Swear Jar which again is hard as fook but such a great track with so many elements to it. Troy is pumping out some wicked tracks at the min and is definatly flying the flag high for the Deep South at the moment lol We have 2 tracks from Random But Raw, one called Outsane which has gone down a treat when I've played it out and the 2nd is fooking awesome to called Take it Down. Which Rob put in the genre of Filthy Cheese haha which it certainly is . Got Whitehayz onboard again as there style suits us down to a tea with a track called Southwest Style which is another stomping track and always goes down well when played out , Another from Darrell White and a new Producer called Martin Wherrett who came up with awesome track and managed to sample Mr Nice aka Howard Marks and done it very well . We have track called Detonation from Manik and Hayz from New Zealand who are pumping out some wicked tracks at the min and also a couple from me one called Wadyer (a simple typing error Was the reason for calling it that) Tom even made me own emotion for the word thx buddy! and last but def not least mine and Tom's Collab with Dom Called Tech Support. It had loads of support on this one so hope it does well.
Do you think CDs are the way forward for labels?
Yes I do definitely its brought a little bit of the spark back in to buying tunes again I think it's going to take time but it seems alot of other labels are releasing cds now so its closest thing were gonna get to buying vinyl, so yer its definitely the way forward.

When you are not DJ ing or producing kick ass tracks, what do you do for fun?
Well at the minute I'm into me fishing and me daughter who is loving it too at the moment, so we go and have a laugh which is cool as I been wrapped up in me music for a while so it's nice to get some quality time in with me daughter lol and pretty going out and taking part in any recreational activities with me, Lazzal and all me mates when eva possible as I seem to have the most fun when in that situation.
Any last words or shout outs?
Big chest slap to Deejaay Jazzy M and all the BT crew. Also a big shout to The Encoded Crew, Phat Beats And Scotty Genetic. He’s another very talented producer, I'm still trying to bring him over to the hard side but he is bang into his beloved trance which he is superb at writing. Wayne Smart ! Well before the interview I decided not to tell everyone about Wayne’s poor pool skills as i didn’t want to give him any coverage at all but, well after his uncalled for abuse towards me in his Interview /mix for u guys a couple of months ago I changed my mind now He is a bloody cheat when it comes to playing online pool, I found out he uses a credit card to measure up all his shots so that was the reason for his winning spree and u know who grassed him up his own Mrs. Smarty fucking Pants ! lol Sorry mate had to be done u know I luv ya in a non sausage way thats about it really I’m sure I’ve bored u all to death chatting shit but I enjoyed doing it so that s all that matters I suppose. Cheers Brian seb keep up the good work. Oh one more thing I love U Mum.
