To start off August's interviews we have the very talented Scott Fo Shaw. At the age of 17 Scott has already achieved more than many could dream of in the music industry. His style of hard funk and hard house has been rocking the airwaves and clubs, with one of his tracks reaching number 1 in the Tidy Digital chart and the debut release on his label (Adrenaline Digital) going straight to number one in the hard dance chart on Trackitdown.net.
Scott has gone from being unknown to having his tracks and remixes charted and played by the likes of The Tidy Boys, Carl Nicholson, Andy Farley, Jp & Jukesy and Steve O'Brady.
Without any futher ado The Beat Ranch presents Scott Fo Shaw

Thanks so much for taking the time out to do this interview and mix
No worries mate.
For those who havent already heard of you, where are you from, and how old are you?
I'm 17 years young and I'm from a little village called Thorlby which is just outside another small town called Skipton In North Yorkshire. There are lots of sheep and other farm animals. A typical sheep makes a 'Baaa' type noise.
You have made quite the mark on the scene already and at your age thats very impressive, when did you get into the hard dance/hard funk scene?
I started out when I was 13 playing filthy jazz from there i progressed through Trance and my sound toughened up until I got to the sound where I am today (which I like to call - Fun Happy Party Time Musics)
Where you always into the funkier side of things? Or was it a progression in taste of music?
Well it was a progression. I have liked harder things such as 180bpm filthy jazz but my tastes settled down and I ended up playing this camp groovey stuff I play now.

What programs and hardware/software (if any) do you use for production? What are some of your favorite plug-ins?
I use a traditional Kahazakstani Gypsy beating stick for my percussion for my leads and basses i tend to use V-station and Z3TA but occasionally for basslines the sound of a pig having sexytime with a horse sounds cool.
Do you do all your own production, or do you use an engineer?
II do all my own productions although i have done collabs with people like Digital Kid, Chris Hoff, Kate Bush & Simon (from Simon & Garfunkel)
You have had very strong releases lately, with support from the likes of Sam Towend and The Tidy Boys, what can we expect from you in the rest of 2007?
You can expect more streaking and nakedness followed by winter so I will cover my self up, because we can expect some scattered showers and cooler temperatures.
With labels now releasing both vinyl and digital tracks, what is your take on the whole "digital vs vinyl"?
I tend to play a bit of both because I have a lot of old classics on vinyl and lots of new promos on cd. But as soon as a cassette version of a cdj is released i'll be an all cassette dj.
How long have you been Djing? Was it something that came before or after producing?
I started Djing and producing at a similar time but production took a back seat untill i mastered my mixing skills. I then spent more time on production and thats helped me get a lot more recognition than I would get if i was just a 5'9'' DJ.

What has been your most memorable djing experience?
Playing the theme from addams family at Storm Next Generation @ The Emporium. Everyones reaction was 'What The Fuck!?' because i played it after a hard trance tune!
What has been your worst experience?
Running into the crowd for a quick mosh mid set and then forgetting i was djing and mixed out of a track way too late
When not producing or spinning, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to make flower arrangements and sing kareoke in foriegn accents
Ok now for some completely random questions
Good Good
Can you cook? If so whats your favorite dish to cook?
I am a regular veiwer of Saturday Kitchen so I like to think I can cook. My favourite dish to cook its butter a la toast
If you were an any kind of animal, which would you be?
Probably a chair

If you where stranded on an island and you could only bring 1 cd/record, 1 book and and 1 food item what would they be?
CD/record would be Scott Fo-shaw's new BeatRanch Mix, 1 book - The Sun newspaper from the day I left, 1 food item - salt & balsamic vinegar kettle chips.
Who would win a fight, Spiderman or Batman?
Hmm.... I think they would start fighting but then they would realise that they could fight crime together and then touch each other in their pants
When can people see you play out next?
At the park on Raikes Road after school.
Thanks again Scott, any last words?
Yes. Disembowelment, Compact, Dennis.
