Continuing our October interviews we have Rich Resonate.

Hailing all the way from Barnsley, Yorkshire, Rich started off in the House & Trance scene in 1996. It was until 2000 that Rich discovered Hard House, and since then he has been hooked! On the production front Rich has really been making his name known, most recently with his awsome Toolkit Series release on Toolbox Recordings.

Now with out any further ado, Rich Resonate

Welcome to The Beat Ranch Rich, for those who don't know, where are you from and what is the scene like out there at the moment?

Hi thanks for having me, i'm from a town called Barnsley up in good old Yorkshire a stones throw away from sheffield (in case anyone didn't know), There has never really been a scene in Barnsley unfortunately so i have always had to travel to neighbouring Sheffield or Leeds, the scene though in general in my opinion i think is really quite lively, so many top producers and tracks are popping up all over the place and there are so many good nights out there too.

What got you into hard house over other genres in the scene?

Well i first started off playing House back in 96 then after about a year got into trance, then in 2000 i got a residency at my local nightclub but i wanted to play something different so i started to buy hard house tracks, i loved it so i stuck with it , i still like trance and house but my first love will always be hard house

Do you listen to any other genres of music?

Yeah i do, i listen to anything really i have a very broad musical taste, i recently bought the new 'Empire Of The Sun ' album which is ace, i grew up in the 80's so i love the electronic music from that era e.g Depeche Mode , The Human League etc etc.

Do you remember your first event that you went to?

Do i , It was at The Republic (before Gatecrasher moved in) in 1997 , I remember that Jon Da Silva and Anthony Pappa were playing, i'd never been anywhere like that before as i was only 17 so i didn't know what to expect but i had gone along with some friends that had been there a few times before , it was there that i heard B.B.E Seven Days And One Week , it was mindblowing, after that night i got in to trance (mainly Sasha and John Digweed), But everytime i hear that track being played the memories come flooding back.

What was the last event that you went to and how was it?

The last event i went to was Insomiacz birthday unfortunately i had been out drinking from 10 30 that morning so i was a little worse for wear so i only lasted til about 2am but from what i can remember it was awesome.

You have had quite a few releases out, mainly on Toolbox with your Toolkit release and even Breed Digital with your track The Riff Track. Have you been working on anything new lately?

Yeah, I have just finished a new track called 'Brain Digger' which is different again for me but is going down really well with the big names at the minute, I have also been working on a new duo project with my mate Dean under the name 'Konekt and Rich Resonate' looking at the harder side of hard house than what i produce on my own, one of which has been signed to Vicious Circle.

Each one of your tracks is different than the track before it, is that a reflection of your style or just the need to keep things fresh?

I think it is a reflection of my style, i love to mix things up and also with my broad musical taste i get most of my idea's from different genre's.

Do you produce your tracks yourself or use an engineer? If so who?

I use an engineer (Mr Maddox) , i wouldn't use anyone else , What that guy doesn't know you could write on the back of a postage stamp, I'm just starting out learning Cubase at the minute as i want to get my idea's down before they fly out of my head, but i would never stop using Paul.

When you go into the studio, do you bring a bunch of samples and ideas with you or do you already know exactly what sound you want?

It's a bit of both really , i get everything together then head over to the studio, Get my idea's down and then the rest fits together.

On the DJing front, what has been your favorite venue to play at and why.

I haven't played out that much really but the best gig i had has to have been Toolbox Trilogy Pt 2, i was playing the main room and the night went so well , the crowd were amazing and my Girlfriend and friends had come along for the first time so that was an added bonus.

What is in your CD wallet at the moment and what tracks do you not leave home without?

Alot of varied tracks to be honest, plenty of Rodi Style, Hi Freak1c, Fran Dunne, Gaz Gibson, Ben Stevens, Me (obviously) :) etc etc, I would never leave home without my remix of Stimulant Dj's 'Hoovertime' i've always wanted to do a remix of that track and i was so pleased with how it came out, and now it has been featured on the new Tidy International Album.

Who has impressed you this year with their productions or djing and who should we be on the look out for?

Production wise and djing wise Rodi Style can do no wrong at the minute , he's like a tune factory hit after hit and the skills that man has on the decks is truely staggering always pushing the limits, Ross Homson , Hi Freak1c and Gaz Gibson are are coming into the scene with a bang all with their own unique style and world class production's, these Guys are the one's to look out for, Oh and of course me.

When you are not DJing or producing, what do you do for fun?

Hmmm thats a tough one, i have a very demanding job that requires me to be on call 24hours a day for 7 days once a month and it normally lands on the weekend that the good HH nights are on so i dont go out to clubs as much as i would like to :( , but apart from that i like to go to the gym , go out with my lovely girlfriend and also have a blast on Guitar Hero on my Wii

Any last words or shout outs?

Yeah thanks for having me on here keep up the good work with the interviews, Thanks to all the Producers for knocking out so many good tracks any firing them over to me :) and check out my facebook and myspace etc for all my forthcoming releases and gigs.
