Starting and finishing off September's interviews we have Breed Digital's frontman Gazz Hunt. Gazz has been making a name for himself not only as a DJ playing such events as Polysexual Vs Resistance, but a producer as well, with tracks on The Beat Ranch Digital, Presence, Relapse Digital, Scum NRG and of course his own label Breed Digital Now without any further ado...

The Beat Ranch proudly presents, Gazz Hunt

Thanks Gazz for takin the time out to do this interview and mix, you are no stranger to The Beat Ranch since your release Just Say No To Drugs was released earlier this year. Where abouts are you from, for those who do not know.

I'm from a little town in Staffordshire called Cannock, Not the most exciting place on earth but it's ok!

How is the scene out there at the moment?

The hard house scene in the UK at the moment is good I'd say, The only thing that upsets me is the smaller events being so empty, The promoters put so much hard work and money into the events aswell, I'm loving playing out so thats the main thing!

Have you heard any new styles or genres coming through the speakers?

Yes I have mate, Iv recently started playing a new kind of jackin, wonky house music called fidget! I made my debut for FUNKdeluxe few weeks back at B2T, really enjoyed it and looking forward to working with FUNKdeluxe in the future, they have some awesome gigs lined up! Also keep your eyes open for my 1st promo mix which will be available very soon!

Who or what have been your influences over the years?

My influences as a DJ is Andy Farley without a doubt, I think the man is an absolute legend, Iv adored his style, mixing ability and his track selection for years and years! He is the main man! As a producer I have several influences, Paul Maddox (not heard a poor track from him), Dom Sweeten, Dave Owens, Darrell White and on the funky side Jon BW & Scott Fo-shaw, Scott is a extremeley talented lad with a massive future ahead of him!

How is your label Breed Digital doing? What do you have lined up for in 2009?

Breed is going very well thanks mate, Iv had now over 50 releases and I can only see the label getting bigger with the amount of talent about at the moment! Also I'm very happy to have Dave Owens onboard to do some remixes for me! His 1st remix of Evo D & Maxwell - Blowing Ecstacy will be available soon! My plans for 2009 are to keep the quality music coming thick & fast!

What is your take on pretty much everyone starting their own digital label?

I know that most people start up labels to put the own material out there and yes there is alot of rubbish out there but theres also alot of excellent tracks out there, swings and roundabouts I suppose!

Its our understanding that you produce with engineers, who would you like to produce with in the coming years?

Yes I do at the moment, Currently I'm using Kirk Whetton aka Sabre Saw aka Iridium and I'm also using Darrell White to make my tracks! I have dates with Jon BW & Tom Berry for the remainder of 2008 then in 2009 I plan to get in the studio with Paul Maddox, Dom Sweeten & Dave Owens!

When did you start Djing, and do you remember your first record that you bought?

I started DJ'ing roughly about 5 years ago but I have only been playing out in clubs for coming up to 2 years. The first record purchased? It was a Nukleuz vinyl - Anne Savage & James Lawson - The Hoffman Experience! Still love that track today!

Do you still buy vinyl or is it all digital for you now?

I'm all Digital now!

Whats been your favorite djing experience thus far?

I have two favourite DJ experiences, The first was playing the main room at Polysexual Vs Resistance, I actually got to play two sets that night because Superfast OZ didn't show up, So I did a warm up set and peak time tougher set! The second favourite experience was playing at B2T at Subway City a few months ago, The sound system in there was incredible, The crowd was incredible, It really was a mind blowing experience!

Top 5 tunes in your box at the moment

  1. Rich Resonate - Start Rockin [Toolbox]
  2. Rich Resonate - Back To Reality [Toolbox]
  3. Evo D & Maxwell Vs Defective Audio - Ridgeback [Test Lab
  4. Gazz Hunt Vs WhiteHayz - Braindead [Breed Digital]
  5. Adam K & Base Graffiti - The Trebuchet [Flashpoint]

When you are not djing or producing, what do you like to do for fun?

I like to play football, Watch football, Drink and spend time with my mates!

Any last words?

Hope to see you all on the dancefloor soon!
